Playground Safety Tips
- Actively supervise children on playgrounds. It won't be difficult - they'll want you to see their monkey climbing, jumping, and swinging skills!
- Ensuring the children are dressed appropriately for the playground and weather. Remove clothing that could get caught on equipment like necklaces, scarves, purses, & drawstrings
- Go to playgrounds with shock-absorbing surfaces. Surfaces like rubber, synthetic turf, sand, pea gravel, wood chips, or mulch, will absorb the impact of a child falling which also provides cushion
- Before they play! Inspect the equipment for any sharp objects or dangerous surfaces. Making sure that children know to notify you if they find broken glass or syringes
- Have a small first aid kit with you and be familiar with first aid in case on of your dayhome children gets hurt
- Teach the children about play ground safety rules:
- Playground is for everyone! So we need to share with other children
- Patience is key while waiting for their turn
- Treat others with kindness
- Hold onto any railings
