What is Child Sexual Abuse?
Child sexual abuse is defined as the inappropriate exposure or subjection of a child to sexual material, contact, activity, or behaviour. It includes any sexual act directed toward a child by an adult or by an older, more powerful child.Â
About Little Warriors
A national charitable organization, Little Warriors focuses on the awareness, prevention, and treatment of child sexual abuse. Have you heard of The Be Brave Ranch? Their Alberta-based facility is a specialized, trauma-informed evidence-based, treatment center focused on helping children who have been sexually abused, as well as their families.
What is the Prevent it! Workshop?
Developed by researchers at the University of Alberta, the Prevent it! Workshop was designed to educate adults about sexual abuse, with a focus on helping adults develop tools to help reduce children’s vulnerability to sexual abuse.Â
Sign & Symptoms
There could be potential behaviour indicator changes that might seem concerning. Behaviours like increased anger, withdrawal, avoidance, and more are listed below in the photo. However, these indicators are generally non-specific and can be caused by a range of stressful occurrences or even normal developmental processes.Â
Most sexual abuse instances do not result in physical indicators.
Psychological indicators are much more likely to occur in abuse instances. It’s important to recognize sudden changes, but also those over time. Examples like anxiety, depression, hopelessness, and more are listed below in the photo.
Reporting Abuse
If you suspect a child has been abused, you are legally required to report your suspicion to child protective services or the police.
