When Biting Happens
Biting is a common but challenging behaviour in early childhood settings, and it can be stressful for educators, children, and families alike. In this professional development session, we’ll take a closer look at why biting happens, including developmental stages, sensory needs, communication challenges, and environmental triggers. You’ll learn proactive strategies to prevent biting before it occurs, as well as calm, consistent responses when it does happen. We’ll also explore how to support the child who bites, comfort and care for the child who is bitten, and communicate effectively with parents during these incidents. This session will equip you with practical tools to handle biting in a way that protects safety, fosters empathy, and maintains a positive, respectful environment for everyone in your care.
