Observations can help educators better understand children’s interests and learning. However, they do not need to be formal or completed for every child every day. This workshop shows providers how to take a researcher approach by slowing down, noticing children’s play, and following their curiosity. This workshop explored different ways to observe children and decide when documentation may be helpful, and discovered how to notice repeated actions, interests, and changes in development. The session also shares simple ways to respond to observations and build on children’s learning. Providers will leave with practical ideas for making observations and documentation useful and manageable in their dayhome.
